Winter Music Conference, in its 23rd year, is regarded
as the singular networking event in the dance
music industry, attracting professionals from
over 62 different countries. With its high concentration
of top international artists, DJs and industry
professionals, WMC permeates the international
press and is thereby one of the most publicized
events in the business. Every aspect of the industry
is represented including the top technological
innovators, artists, DJs, producers, radio and
video programmers, retailers, distributors, audio
manufacturers and many more. There are countless
reasons why people from all over the world return
year after year for this event, the most outstanding
one being that there is nothing else in the world
like it.
Industry Development
Currently, the music industry is engaged in a profound
structural metamorphosis. CDR's, MP3's, download streams and other
new technologies are forever changing the ways in
which people create, buy, sell and listen to music.
Such matters are among the many debated
at Winter Music Conference. The WMC program
brings together informed professionals to present
new ideas, discuss industry issues, and build new
inroads for business development. Meetings and seminars
focus on topics such as market strategies,
artist development, copyrighting, publishing, writing
contracts, artist management, distribution, radio,
promotion, internet retailing, and the media, just
to name a few. With more than 30 important meetings
and seminars on the agenda, WMC will continue
its mission to provide a decisive global platform
for resolving the current challenges and stimulating
new industry growth and revenue. |

A pair of eyes is often present in the work of Diego Singh.
Disembodied, floating and simultaneously reminiscent of Bowie,
mysticism and commercial Ad's for vibrant eye shadows. "To look into
one's eye's is to glimpse the very soul of a person", in the case of
Singh's works that cliché might actually carry its weight. In these
works the "eyes" may not be literally those of the painter gazing back
at the viewer in some lurid attempt at flirtation or interrogation but
instead, an invitation to stare back. To "lock eyes" is a shared
experience, you can only take away as much as the other person allows;
the power shifts constantly. The title of the show "Burning Bridges"
addresses this point; all bridges require two shores, two points of
departure merging over open water. That space in the middle, floating,
undecided and sometimes raised for passage, is crucial to understanding
Diego Singh's new body of work. |

As controversial as the title suggests, “In Your Face” features a group of artists whose work is literally in your face. These works stare right back at the viewer as if to say: “Here I am. Look at me! Am I making you think?” The diversity of the artists in the exhibition reminds us that America the “melting pot” is a cliché, punctuating that we are not diluted within the proverbial stew. Rather, the artists comprise a patchwork quilt whose individuality remains intact. Like unique pieces of fabric, symbolically woven together, they convey their stories and personalities, and more fundamentally, their American experience. The work suggests that the images we are viewing reflect fragments of our own experience, postulating that their existence is not apart from us, but rather part of us. We are asked to recognize that our own identity within this culture is inextricably linked to those who surround us. This relationship between the viewer and the work creates a fluctuation between an array of emotions- pride, guilt, sympathy, curiosity, recognition...These subjects represent our friends, neighbors, family members, and the strangers we pass on the street. Look closely and you may even see a glimmer of self recognition.
